Obituary

Fritzie Silkin

Elfriede Irene Silkin (née Raab), 89, known to family and friends as Fritzie, on August 26, 2020, at RWJ Somerset Hospital in NJ.

A first-generation American, she was born at home on January 11, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, to Adolph and Emma Maurer Raab, immigrants from Mackenbach, Germany, who entered through Ellis Island in the Twenties. Fritzie was educated in New York City public schools; a graduate of Grover Cleveland HS, she attended NYU Business School.

Prior to retirement she was a bilingual secretary at American Hoechst, and grant coordinator at the Diabetes Research & Education Foundation.
Fritzie has called Bridgewater home since 1974. Most of all, she’s loved Cape Cod since 1952, recruiting her husband and children for yearly trips in every season.

Fritzie is survived by daughter Katherine, of Bridgewater; and daughter Beth Ricciardi, son-in-law Mike, and grandchildren Lauren and Mike, of Glen Mills, PA. She was predeceased by husband Alexis in 1992, and her brother Kurt.

Arrangements are by Van Arsdale Funeral Home, Fritzie will be interred on Cape Cod. Service will private.

In lieu of flowers, donations might be made at Green Knoll Rescue Squad, Bridgewater, NJ or Orleans Conservation Trust, Orleans, MA, or a charity of preference.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff at VNA of Somerset Hills, and at Parker Home at Landing Lane, who kept her walking and dancing until her last days.
