Obituary

Hugh J. Carr Jr. passed away on August 18, 2018 at St. Mary's Hospital, Langhorne, PA. He was 80 years old.

Hugh was born in Union City, NJ, raised in North Bergen and was a resident of the Landing section of Roxbury Township for 50 years before moving to Newtown, Pennsylvania in 2017. He is predeceased by his father, Hugh J. Carr, who passed when Hugh was 13. He is also predeceased by his mother Angeline (nee Cosentino) Carr Rapp and stepfather James Rapp, who married when both were in their 70's. In addition, he is predeceased by his wife Margarete (nee Rieth), and sisters Eleanor Stigliano and Teresa (T-Ann) Patrick. He is survived by daughter Laurel Collins, son-in-law Patrick, and grandsons Hugh and Jack. Hugh is also survived by daughter Heather Diatz and son-in-law Steven, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hugh graduated in 1960 from Fordham University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. He started his career as a researcher at Sloan-Kettering, and was at the forefront of nuclear medicine testing at St. Barnabas Hospital in The Bronx. He worked for many years as a nuclear medicine technician at St. Luke's Hospital in New York. While working at Newton Memorial Hospital in Newton, NJ for over 20 years, he eventually became supervisor of the nuclear medicine department before retiring.

Hugh enjoyed traveling, reading, and bird watching. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. He had a big heart, and was full of wit and wisdom. Hugh will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to join a celebration of Hugh's life at 11:30 AM, Sunday September 23, 2018 at Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, 323 Washington Ave, Newtown PA. Interment of ashes will be done privately at Locust Hill Cemetery in Dover, NJ. Local arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, Somerville.
