Marguerite Theresa Nering Thompson, age 86 of Piscataway, entered the Kingdom of the Lord on July 4, 2018 and joined with her family of angels gone before her.

Her beloved husband of 46 years Thomas Frederick Thompson went before her in 2004. She is the daughter of Marguerite T and Emil Nering, the sister of Emil M. Nering of New York City and the childhood friend of Wally Pecha (all deceased). She is survived by a myriad of children she called her own, namely, Ana M. Martinez of Morristown, Hanz and Tju Makmur of Piscataway, Richard Pecha of Smyna, GA and two wonderful grandsons, whom she also called her own and dearly loved, Matthew and Michael Makmur.She is also survived by her beloved friend Warren E. Ehrmann Sr. of Colorado Springs, CO, her childhood friend, Dorothea Heeseman of Syracuse NY, goddaughters Janice Cherkis and Christina Harrison and her nieces Gail Meyers and Marjorie Heesemann.

Marge retired from Rutgers University in 1998 after serving 13 years in the Douglass Speech and Hearing Center and 17 years in the Computer Science Research Computing Center, where she held the title of Departmental Administrator. She often commented how the experience of working at Rutgers kept her young and vital.

Marge was best known for her love of her faith, love of children, friendship and service. She was a member of Good Shepherd Church in Somerville and before that, All Saints Lutheran Church in Piscataway, where she was a charter member and served over 40 years in various positions. Her devotion to her faith was deep and was most grateful to the Lutheran community for all the love and support they provided her and Tom throughout the years.

She served as Chair of the Piscataway Public Relations Advisory Commission for almost 15 years, on the Board of Ethics in Piscataway and on the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. She served as President of the Piscataway Women’s Republican Club, the Middlesex County GOP for Women and on the Board of Governors at the NJU State Federation of Republican Women. In 2004, she was named Volunteer of the Year by Piscataway Township.

Marge served as Worthy Matron of Highland Park Chapter No. 190 OES and as President of the Past Matrons and Past Patrons Association, OES of NJ. In 2001, she was appointment as Private Secretary to the Most Worthy Gran Matron, Mary Jan Lojewski, a position she was extremely honored to hold.

Funeral services will be 10:30am Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Somerville beginning with a visitation at 9am at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
