He became the Reference Librarian at City College, Chief Librarian at Staten Island Community College, Dean of the Day Session and later Dean of Faculty. Martin and his wife in 1978 then moved to San Francisco where he held the position of Provost of Antioch College West. In 1981, Martin and his family moved back to New Jersey and enjoyed retirement. They were the proud grandparents of Mike and Adam. Martin was an avid reader and over the many years enjoyed his Lincoln Center subscriptions to the NY Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera. In July, 2019 Martin suffered a stroke that left him bedridden and with difficult speech. Martin was a roll model to his children and will be sadly missed by all.
