Robert E. Collins Sr.

92, entered into eternal rest on January 2, 2019.

Robert was born in East Rutherford, NJ to Sadie and Elmer Collins. He and his wife Charlotte raised their four children in Rochelle Park, NJ. Prior to moving to Hillsborough 5 years ago, Robert resided in Columbus, NJ for 30 years. He was employed as a ceramic engineer at Westinghouse in Bloomfield, NJ which was later bought out by Phillips Lighting for over 40 years, retiring in 1988.Robert was a veteran in the United States Navy during WWII where he served in the Pacific in four major battles and received several medals, stars, ribbons and citations. He graduated from the Missouri School of Mines Engineering College in Rolla, Missouri Tau Beta Pi as a Ceramic Engineer. He married in 1949 to Charlotte Gertrude Remes of Little Ferry, NJ. He was a member of the Arcola Methodist Church in Paramus, NJ. His most achiving success came with a patent for a lamp enylope coating and the method of applying it. Robert had many interests in life which included photography, gardening, golfing, fishing, and extensive travel throughout United States and Canada. He was an avid reader and a true history buff. His greatest passion in life was especially his family. His role as husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was most important to him. He took every opportunity to create memories with his family. He will be truly missed.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Charlotte. They had been married for 66 years. He is also predeceased by his daughter in law Barbara Collins and brother John Collins.

Robert is survived by his loving children, daughter Kathleen Collins, 3 sons, Robert Collins Jr., Alan (Kim) Collins, and Neal (Kerry) Collins, six grandchildren Nicole Nugent, Alan Collins Jr., Michael Collins, Meghan Henriksen, Paige Collins, Haley Collins, and five great grandchildren Marley Collins, Gavin Nugent, Sparrow Collins, Michael Collins Jr., and Colin Nugent.

Funeral services will be 10:30am Wednesday at the Bruce Van Arsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave. Somerville. Interment will follow at William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
Visitation will be 2-4 pm and 7-9pm Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
