Thelma E. Gerber, 90, passed peacefully surrounded by family on November 30, 2017.

Thelma was born in Elizabeth, NJ, to Edwin G. and Anna Volker.

During WWII, Thelma served the war effort as a Naval Reserve Officer in the WAVES. After the war, she worked as an accountant for Standard Oil before starting her family in 1955.

A long time Scotch Plains resident, Thelma was a homemaker and enjoyed devoting her time to raising her children. She was also a stalwart civic leader, involved with numerous and varied charities and organizations in Westfield and Scotch Plains, including the Girl Scouts, Golden Agers and the local Republican Party. Thelma was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Morristown.

She is predeceased by her husband Warren, Sr. who passed away in 1987; as well as sisters Lillian Volker and Vera Greiner and brothers Edwin, Arthur, Warren and Wilbur.

Surviving are her son Warren Gerber, Jr., and two daughters, Katherine Pellek and Nancy Gerber, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be private, and take place at a later date at the Presbyterian Church at Morristown on the Green.
