Joseph Yerchik Jr.

84, died May 30, 2017.

Joseph was born in Buttonwood, Pennsylvania on May 31, 1932 and moved to New Jersey in 1938. He was a 1950 graduate of Somerville High School. Joseph played three years of varsity football and was named all county in 1949. He joined the US Navy in 1951 and served two tours of duty in Korea. He retired as a teamster from local 701. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 2290 and The American Legion Post 12 in Somerville. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed taking trips to the casinos in Atlantic City. He will be sadly missed by all.

He is predeceased by his wife Lois "Barnes" Yerchik and a brother Frank Yerchik and late companion Carol Walker.

Surviving are his daughter Kim Simmons, grandson Joseph Simmons and wife Cheryl, and three great grandsons Andrew, Daniel, and Matthew Simmons, and several other nieces and nephews.

Private services with full military honors will be at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, US Route 1 North, Woodbridge. Arrangements by Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 No. Gaston Ave. Somerville.
