Maurice was born in Buffalo, NY on October 15, 1924, raised in Brooklyn, NY and resided in Somerville for most of his adult life. He graduated from Samuel J. Tilden High School, Brooklyn, NY in 1942. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the Army of the United States, serving as Airplane Crew Chief during WWII's Mediterranean Theater of Operations. Maurice was President of Nassau Food Services, Inc., Princeton, NJ. During his career, he managed Princeton University's Eating Clubs, served as general manager at several country clubs, directed school lunch programs in several districtsand catered.He and his wife, Ruth, travelled extensively to Europe, the Middle East, South America, Africa and Asia. Maurice enjoyed the theater, Broadway and local productions; concerts, including the NJ Symphony Orchestra and outdoor ones at Giralda Farms; and church dinners. He and Ruth loved their annual trips to Tanglewood. Upon retirement, he volunteered at Somerset Medical Center; swam at the local Y several times a week; ventured to the local mall to kibitz with his pals; and most of all, enjoyed time with his wife, Ruth, his children, and granddaughters. He will be sadly missed by all.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, who passed away March 2016; his parents, Samuel and Rose Silverman; his sister, Muriel Benjamin; and his brothers, Gilbert and Richard Silverman.
Surviving are his daughter, Sheila Gartenberg, and her husband, Barry; sons, Robert Silverman and his companion, Beth Price, Mark Silverman, and Scott Silverman and his wife, Susan; and his granddaughters, Alexandraand Arielle Gartenberg, and Arielle's fiancé, Matthew Sherman. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Silverstein, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 10:30 AM at the Bruce Van Arsdale Funeral Home, 111 Gaston Avenue, Somerville.Interment will follow at Temple Sholom Cemetery in Bridgewater.
