May 27, 1935 - September 15, 2017
Born in Denver, Colorado
Resided in Zarephath, New Jersey

Marjorie Ann Slack, 82, of Zarephath, New Jersey, a teacher and a farmer’s wife, died on Friday, Sep 15, 2017 after a rapid decline in her health from unknown causes.

Born in Denver, Colorado to Charles and Dorothy Ogden, Marjorie was a nearly life-long resident-member and employee of The Pillar of Fire Church and a 1961 graduate of Alma White College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Over the course of her more than 50-year teaching career, she taught elementary and junior high students at Pillar of Fire schools in Los Angeles, California, Westminster and Lafayette, Colorado and most significantly in Bound Brook and Zarephath, New Jersey. She also worked most of her nearly 40-year married life as a farmer’s wife with her husband Garth. Together they raised strawberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, peaches, green beans, cucumbers and many other produce items that they sold at a road-side stand on Weston Causeway in Franklin Township for many years. Marjorie would enjoy the delicious fresh produce in the summertime and then pour her heart into caring for her students during the school year. She also enjoyed traveling back to her native Colorado in the summer between strawberry and corn seasons to visit her many family members and friends in the Denver area.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband Garth Slack and her brothers Richard Ogden and Dale Ogden. She is survived by her son and daughter Darrel Slack and Amy Gilligan and their spouses Michael McGeever and Joe Gilligan. She is also survived by her two brothers Roger Ogden and Arnold Ogden as well as many nieces, nephews, and in-laws, all of whom she deeply loved.

Visitation and viewing will be on Sunday, Sep 24, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm and funeral services will be on Monday, Sep 25, at 1:00 pm, both at the Van Arsdale Funeral Home in Somerville, New Jersey. A graveside service will follow at the Pillar of Fire cemetery in Zarephath, New Jersey.
