82, died April 7, 2018.

James was born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania and was a lifelong resident of Bridgewater. At age 14, Jim went to work and became a heavy equipment operator at Schaal Construction in Bridgewater and worked for only three men for the next 51 years, retiring in 1999. In 1970, Jim started his trapshooting career at the Climax Gun Club in Bridgewater where he shot his first 100 registered targets. Jim has shot a majority of his targets at the Bucks County PA club. He states that many times he was on the same squad as Pat Comly who will be inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame with him.

Over the years, Jim has won numerous trophies in the New Jersey Northern Zone. In 2006, Jim won the New Jersey State Senior Veterans Singles Class. In 2009, he won the New Jersey State Senior Veterans Singles Class with a score of 199, which to date is the highest winning score of any Senior Veterans has optioned. He also was the HAA Senior Veteran in 2009. In 2006 and 2009, Jim as the Senior Veterans Doubles Champion. Jim has been on seven New Jersey State men’s teams and four New Jersey State Senior Veterans teams.Jim has shot at the Pennsylvania State Shoot in Elysburg, where he shot 99s to win the Open trophies in Senior Veterans. Jim has been awarded the 27 yard line three times in his career. He states that when he began shooting his Beretta automatic, all his shooting came together. Jim also enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outdoors with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all.

He is predeceased by his wife Marilyn Steinhart who passed away in 2009, three sisters Marilyn, Mary, and Joan, and one brother Jack Steinhart.

Surviving are his two sons James Jr. and wife Melanie and Mark and wife Patricia and a brother Robert Steinhart.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9pm Tuesday at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville. Cremation will be private.
