While studying at M.I.T., he met his wife, Joan and they married in 1961,
Ed worked at Battel in Hanford, Washington and then moved to work at the research labs for America Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO) in South Plainfield, NJ for 20 years. He then went on to work for and retire from Nord Resources, Jackson, NJ.

Ed enjoyed driving his family out to Idaho to visit his parents and other family members, giving his three sons the farm life experience of feeding the calves and lambs, riding horses and fishing on the lakes he grew up on. He also loved to travel with his wife and family to historic places up and down the east coast including Boston, Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Kitty Hawk and the Everglades. Ed enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
