Obituary

Kenneth Strausfeld, 87, died peacefully with family at his side on October 19, 2019.

He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and educated in New York schools through medical school. He attended Tilden High School in Brooklyn, and received his BA and MD from NYU. He met his wife Myra while still in medical school and they enjoyed a 64 year marriage with four children, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Strausfeld served in the US Air Force and Reserves from 1958 to 1967, retiring as a major and stationed for two years in Amarillo, TX. He took his medical residency at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT before settling permanently in Central New Jersey, first in Bridgewater and then in Warren. Dr. Strausfeld began practicing obstetrics and gynecology in Bound Brook in 1964 in a practice that became known as Perl, Strausfeld and Kasper which later merged to become Somerset OB/GYN Associates in Bridgewater. He served on staff at Somerset Medical Center for 30 years. He volunteered of his time in various ways, including as a visiting physician to the Blackfoot Reservation in Browning, MT and as former president of The Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon & Warren Counties. He was formerly a member of Temple Sholom in Bridgewater.
Dr. Strausfeld was an amateur but accomplished chef. He built and maintained a greenhouse at his Bridgewater home, specializing in growing tropical blooming plants such as orchids and bromeliads. He loved traveling, skiing in Vermont and dinner and theater outings in New York City, but his greatest passion was spending time with his adoring family. He enjoyed a wide circle of friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Surviving Dr. Strausfeld are his wife Myra Strausfeld, son Dave Strausfeld, daughters Karen Hoffman, Laura Strausfeld and Lisa Strausfeld; grandchildren Ali, Jason, Otto, Evie and Muriel; and great-grandchildren Noah, Benji and Camille.
